The spirit of volunteerism of TUPAD beneficiaries only took a day to build the house of Lola Manuela.
DOLE’s employment flagship program, TUPAD or the Tulong Panghanapbuhay para sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers is more than just for employment but sometimes an avenue for values development and humanitarian works.

The case of Manuela Clavines of Roxas City, Capiz is an issue at hand. She received an early Christmas gift from TUPAD when the 35 fisherfolk beneficiaries in Brgy. Dumolog rebuild her already tattered house on top of the community service assigned to them.

The 87-year old Nanay Manuela was emotional as she is now living comfortably in her new house.

With the supervision of PESO-Roxas City, the TUPAD workers wholeheartedly constructed a small but decent home for the senior citizen through the materials provided by the LGU – Roxas City under the leadership of Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.

Ginapasalamatan ko ang DOLE, PESO-Roxas kag mga TUPAD beneficiaries nga wala nagpang-alang-alang nga maghatag sang serbisyo agud mabuligan si Nanay Manuela (I am extending my gratitude to DOLE, PESO –Roxas and to TUPAD beneficiaries who did not hesitate to extend their services to help Nanay Manuela), ‘said Roxas City Mayor Ronnie Dadivas.

“We hope we can make Lola Manuela happy,” said PESO Manager Caroline Dadivas. She added that the TUPAD beneficiaries who extended their help worked not only to earn but to make a difference for Lola Manuela.

Regional Director Atty. Sixto T. Rodriguez, Jr. is glad that the beneficiaries embrace the spirit of volunteerism and work beyond the task assigned to them for humanitarian consideration. He added that it is heart-warming to note that an old marginalized individual benefitted from the TUPAD program.

Lola Manuela has long been widowed and living alone in an old shattered house.
