ILOILO CITY- The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) Iloilo Field Office, together with the Iloilo Provincial Government through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), facilitated the graduation rites of 98 youths who have recently completed the Life Skills Training (LST) under the DOLE’s Jobstart Program.
Said graduation rites were conducted with the Department of Labor and Employment, Asian Development Bank (ADB) and the Iloilo Provincial Government through its Public Employment Service Office (PESO), them being the key implementers of the JobStart, a program that enhances the employability of the trainees through training and paid partnership, seeking to capacitate the local PESO and provide full cycle employment facilitation services.
The LST is one of the key components of the JobStart program which employs a comprehensive and systematic approach in assisting young jobseekers from planning their career paths all the way through them acquiring the best-fit jobs through career guidance, life skills and technical training, and internship.
DOLE’s Service Provider provides the life skills training of the participants which include topics on Financial Literacy, Preparation of Curriculum Vitae, Preparation for Interview, Effective Oral Communication, Time Management, Handling Customers, Managing Conflict, Goal-Setting, and a variety of self-improvement modules. On the other hand, the DOLE orients the participants on Worker’s Rights to prepare them as they enter the world of work.
The JobStart trainees were provided an allowance throughout the course of the training.
After the LST, the trainees will undertake technical training for a maximum of three (3) months, administered either by Technical-Vocational school or the participating establishments. The last phase is the internship, during which the trainees will receive a stipend of not less than seventy-five percent (75%) of the prevailing minimum wage in Western Visayas.
Program partners for the trainees internship are Chedmaryl Construction and Supplies, TQM Construction Corporation, F. Guerrea Construction, Inc., Bancom Marketing Inc., Tibiao Bakery Inc., Iloilo Yoo Kwang; Ever Bilena Cosmetics Inc., Ultimate Spa Indulgence, Jollibee Go Group of Companies, Startek Philippines Inc., IQOR Philippines; Mang Inasal (Parola and Pavia Branch) and McDonald’s.
JobStart Philippines is a program of DOLE, with technical assistance from ADB and the Iloilo Provincial Government through its PESO, aiming to enhance the employability of at risk youth in order to improve their integration into productive employment by means of helping them through school-to-work transition.
